It is with a very heavy heart that I inform you on the recent loss of dear friends, Eric "Stu" Stuer and his wife Debbie. Unfortunately, they lost their lives in a tragic car accident while on tour in Louisiana. The first time I got the opportunity to met this two wonderful individuals in person was around 2002. Inspired by Eric's rhythm collector spirit, we decided to write and publish an introductory article about the Afro-Puerto Rican Plena for his Rhythmweb.com, the response we received from people all over the world was tremendous. Also occasionally, we did have the opportunity to work/play together in Rhythmweb school/libraries percussion presentations, and surely every time it was a blast!!! Debbie a very sweet lady, always camera in hand documenting and taking awesome pictures. Last time I got the chance to talk with Eric was this past May when he called looking for a sub for an upcoming presentation. As usual, he was all "pumped up" very excited about his upcoming presentations tour, while at it he let me know how proud he was of all the good things happening with my career. Eric and Debbie you'll be dearly missed...

Wanted to let you know about some schedule changes for the upcoming Fall 2008 semester courses I'll teach @ Mountain View College.

World Drumming Ensemble (MUEN 1135-6501) will meet Monday and Wednesday's from 4:00PM to 5:20PM.

Latin Jazz Ensemble (MUEN 1152-6501) will meet Wednesday's from 6:00PM to 8:50PM.

Classes start August 25, 2008 and end December 11, 2008.

On September 8, 2008, the U.S. Postal Service issued a .42 cent Latin Jazz commemorative postage stamp that celebrates the rich musical heritage of Latin Jazz.

The Postal Service uses their stamp designs to pay tribute to great citizens, celebrate natural wonders, recognize important historical events, share cultural icons, and promote worthy causes and social issues. The Citizens’s Stamp Advisory Committee reviews tens of thousands of stamp subject proposals each year and makes their recommendations to the Postmaster General for final decision. Only a few dozen stamps are issued annually. The Latin Jazz stamp honors the story of our musical heritage, one that is immensely rich because of its diversity. The stamp features a bold design by San Francisco based artist, Michael Bartalos. Bartalos created a tropical evening scene that depicts three musicians playing bass, piano, and conga drums. This design conveys the multicultural aspects of the music, its percussive nature, and of course its rhythmic complexity.

Big Kudos to the USPS!!!

Now is our turn to support this issuance, it's the only way they will keep honoring this beautiful legacies.
